By studying Marine Science courses as a major or minor subject at our Tauranga campus, you’ll be at the heart of thriving marine-based industries, coastal communities and New Zealand’s busiest port. You’ll have ready access to a wide range of marine ecosystems, learning from some of New Zealand’s leading researchers, industry professionals and science staff in our state-of-the-art laboratory and research facilities.
Marine conservation issues will be examined from a range of ecological, economic and cultural perspectives through a combination of field trips, laboratories and seminars.
Graduates will be prepared for roles in marine and coastal management, and the sustainable development of new and emerging marine industries, with a strong understanding of m?tuaranga M?ori in the co-management of ocean spaces

Our Tauranga campus is located in the heart of Tauranga鈥檚 CBD, surrounded by eateries, shopping and accommodation options. The campus itself is a brand-new multi-level building, featuring all the same student services as the Hamilton campus, with the advantage of being in the middle of the city.

PSW Opportunity
- During study, all students on a student visa can work up to 20 hours per week during semester and full time during vacations.
- After completing Level 7 Bachelor’s Degree or Higher Qualification, a student will get a three years open post-study work visa.
- After completing Level 8 Post Graduate courses of 1 year, students get 1 year PSW.
