English for Academic Purposes
Our English for Academic Purposes (EAP) course is designed to help you excel in your chosen field. Learn to communicate with confidence and improve essential study skills in an English-speaking academic environment. You’ll engage in collaborative learning, structured self-study, and student teacher dialogue just as though you were studying a bachelor’s degree.
We offer a flexible teaching structure that is tailored to your future study choices. If you plan to study a Foundation Certificate or Murdoch University Preparation Course, then you’ll complete our English for Academic Purposes 1 (EAP1) course, with an entry of IELTS 5.0 overall. If you are preparing to enter university directly, you’ll complete English for Academic Purposes 2 (EAP2), with an entry of IELTS 5.5 overall.
Our experienced team of teachers will carefully guide your development across the four key language skills. Our course is designed to improve accuracy, fluency, and confidence across reading, writing, listening and speaking.
Here are some skills you can expect to develop across these four key areas:
SPEAKING
Giving presentations, participating in seminars and tutorials, working in groups.
LISTENING
Listening to lectures, note-taking techniques, listening skills practice.
READING
Strategies such as skimming and scanning, understanding assignment questions, coping with extended reading.
WRITING
Learning to construct paragraphs, essays, reports and summaries, analyses of numerical data and case studies, research and referencing techniques.

- Under 18 support – if you’re under the age of 18 Australian law considers you to be a minor and as such Murdoch College takes a special interest in your welfare and development. Additional support and services are provided to everyone under the age of 18. College staff offer continual support and mentorship throughout your studies with regular meetings and supervision to monitor your progress and welfare.

PSW Opportunity
Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.
- Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
- Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
- Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
- The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants
Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:
- Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
- Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
- Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
- PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Entry Requirements
Students are required to complete the recommended program duration according to their current English level. Entry to EAP 1 requires an IELTS of 5.0 overall (no band below 4.5).
