FDSc Nursing Associate
This two-year course focuses on training real-world skills to an industry-agreed standard, providing the perfect base to begin your nursing career. You’ll learn from our experienced lecturers and technicians using state-of-the-art simulation facilities, coupled with time out on clinical placement.
This combined learning approach of theory and practice will prepare you to help patients through the vulnerable times in their lives and give you the knowledge and skills to play a valued role in a multi-disciplinary health care team. Upon completion of the degree, you’ll be eligible to register with the Nursing and Midwifery Council, as well as being able to progress into Registered Nursing.

We've been running our range of nursing programmes for many years and were one of the first universities to launch the FDSc Nursing Associate degree. Students at BNU benefit from an excellent standard of teaching provided by staff who maintain close links with practice, ensuring that the programme is always kept up-to-date. Our lecturers cover various specialities including, adult, children’s, mental health and learning disability nursing.
At BNU, we recognise roles in this field are hands-on – that’s why you’ll take part in simulated learning experiences throughout the course using our specialised facilities. This will enable you to recreate authentic scenarios and practise your skills in a safe environment.
Alongside your studies, you will take part in a range of clinical placements with our NHS partner hospitals. We work with a range of hospitals across the region and our students are highly respected whilst out in practice – many of our students go on to be employed by the Trust that they worked with during their time at the University.

Job Opportunity Potential
On successful completion of the programme, you will be eligible to register as a Nursing Associate with the Nursing and Midwifery Council. With this qualification, you may find employment within the NHS or with private healthcare providers.
You may also choose to stay on at Buckinghamshire New University and use this course to gain exemptions on application to the BSc (Hons) Nursing degree programmes and may reduce the time needed to complete this programme.
PSW Opportunity
- 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
- 3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
We require successful completion of a Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) / Standard 12 with an overall average of 65% or above.
Mathematics entry requirements
Students need the equivalent of GCSE Mathematics grade C/4.
English language requirements
Students are not required to provide an English Certificate if they achieve a score of 65% or above on the English Language subject of their a Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) / Standard 12.
A typical offer will require a UCAS tariff score of: 80 - 104
A minimum of two full A-levels (or equivalent) is required and a typical offer also requires GCSE Maths and English at grade C/4. Every application is considered on an individual basis.
