BSc (Hons) Psychology (Clinical & Forensic) with Foundation Year

A foundation year helps you develop the study skills and self-confidence needed for higher education when you don’t reach the entry requirements for your subject.

Embark on a captivating journey into the fascinating realm of clinical and forensic psychology at Canterbury Christ Church University. This course offers a comprehensive exploration of mental health, the legal system, and the varied practical real-world applications.

Whether you're drawn to becoming a clinical psychologist, working to improve mental well-being, helping individuals overcome challenges, or you find yourself intrigued by the complexities of forensic psychology such as analysing offending behaviour, assessing risk, treatment and rehabilitation, this course caters to your unique interests and aspirations.

You’ll be in a supportive and nurturing learning environment, guided by an experienced team who are passionate about sharing their expertise. You'll gain the knowledge and skills to make a positive impact in the lives of individuals and society. You'll also specialise in your specific area of interest through the independent research project in your final year.

Application for accreditation has been submitted to The British Psychological Society (BPS). Through this accreditation, you have the opportunity to attain the BPS Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership, a significant step towards becoming a Chartered Psychologist, which can unlock diverse career opportunities.

The foundation year provides you with the fundamental skills and abilities to be able to study at university level. Upon successful completion of this foundation year you can progress to the Psychology (Clinical and Forensic degree) where you'll gain an insight into the practical application of psychology from early on.

Throughout the course, you'll develop transferable skills that will prepare you for employment. From team working and effective communication to presenting and organisational skills, you'll be building in confidence and ability all the time, so that by the time you graduate you're fully prepared to follow your career aspirations.

You will also have the opportunity to do spend a year on professional placement between year 2 and year 3, shadowing or assisting in settings where professional clinical or forensic psychologists do their work.

As you move into the final year, you'll undertake an independent project, which will give you the opportunity to consolidate and deepen your knowledge and understanding of psychology.
