Financial services lawyers can be found in law firms and private industry as well as in government departments and agencies such as the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the U.S. Department of Justice, the Office of the Comptroller of Currency at the U.S. Treasury Department, and the Federal Reserve Banks.

Areas of focus within financial services law include securities regulation and transactions; futures, derivative, and swap regulations and transactions; banking regulation and transactions; and investment advisor regulation.

Possible jobs include:

Administrative law judge
Compliance officer
In-house counsel
Government attorney
Law firm associate or partner

Post-Study Work visa or permit, allowing international students on F-1 visas to work in the US after completing their studies, typically through Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Eligibility:
To be eligible for OPT, students must have been enrolled full-time in a US educational institution for at least one academic year and be seeking work related to their major.

Duration:
Students can apply for up to 12 months of OPT, either before they finish their studies (pre-completion) or after graduation (post-completion).

STEM OPT:
Students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields can apply for an extended OPT period of up to 24 months.

Illinois Tech requires a four-year bachelor's degree conferred with a minimum cumulative undergraduate grade-point average of 3.0/4.0 (or its equivalent) from an accredited institution for regular admission. Individual departments may have different requirements, however.

Provide Illinois Tech an official copy of the English proficiency Duolingo English Test, TOEFL or IELTS score report. The TOEFL code to send your scores to Illinois Tech is 1318. Duolingo English Test can be submitted directly by indicating Illinois Institute of Technology.

IELTS: 6.5

Duolingo: 115

International applicants who are interested in attending Illinois Tech, and who meet academic and financial requirements but do not meet the minimum English proficiency requirements, may be offered conditional admission.
