Certificate in Geomatics

Geomatics integrates data, software, and technology with the theory and practice of Geography. Geomatics is used by a wide range of practitioners, including land surveyors, planners, wildlife managers, demographers, and geophysicists. This certificate is designed to provide students from a range of disciplines and backgrounds an understanding of geomatics theory, tools, and techniques, as well as the associated software and hardware.

The primary topics covered in courses in this certificate program are geographical information systems, remote sensing and spatial data analysis.

While earning the Certificate in Geomatics, you will develop a strong and structured understanding of modern technologies and techniques employed in spatial data acquisition and analysis. You will build a skill set in quantitative analysis through examination of spatial datasets covering a range of disciplines. 

This program includes a capstone course in cartography and communication that will provide you with the background to convey your work in a professional manner to a wide range of audiences.

Eligibility for Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP):
Graduated from a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada.
Desire to stay in Canada temporarily for work.

Important Note:
Graduating from a DLI doesn't automatically qualify you for a PGWP.

Validity of PGWP:
Depends on the length of the study program or the expiry date of your passport, whichever comes first.

Duration of PGWP Based on Study Program Length:
Less than 8 months (or 900 hours for Quebec credentials): Not eligible for PGWP.
At least 8 months (or 900 hours for Quebec credentials), but less than 2 years: PGWP may be granted for the same length as the study program (e.g., a 9-month program results in a 9-month PGWP).
2 years or more: PGWP may be valid for 3 years.

Completion of Multiple Programs:
PGWP may combine the lengths of each program if:
Each program is PGWP eligible.
Each program is at least 8 months (or 900 hours for Quebec credentials) in length.

Important Restriction:
You cannot obtain a PGWP if you already had one after completing an earlier program of study.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

At least 3 years of full-time study in an approved English-medium secondary program including Grades 10, 11, and 12, as well as successful completion of Grade 12 English Language Arts A30 and B30 (or equivalents)
Students from overseas schools offering a Canadian education system curriculum in English require a minimum grade of 65% on their Grade 12 English course(s).
At least 2.5 years of full-time study in an approved English-medium secondary program including Grades 11 and 12, as well as successful completion of Grade 12 English Language Arts A30 and B30 (or equivalents) with minimum final grades of 70%
At least 2 years of full-time study in an approved English-medium secondary program including Grades 11 and 12, as well as successful completion of Grade 12 English Language Arts A30 and B30 (or equivalents) with minimum final grades of 80%

If completion of secondary standing occurred more than five years ago, additional proof of English proficiency may be required.
