Job Opportunity Potential
If you’re not not already a Registered Nurse, you will have the opportunity to write the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX), and to apply for registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario. You’ll have access to dynamic career opportunities in:
- Acute, chronic or long-term care hospitals and institutions
- Clinics and community health organizations
- Complementary fields such as education or research
- Occupational health varied roles such as public health nurse, harm reduction peer worker, mental health worker, patient education specialist, leadership and more

If your program was less than 8 months
- You aren’t eligible for a PGWP.
If your program was more than 8 months but less than 2 years
- We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for up to the same length as your study program.
For example, if you completed a 9-month program, we may give you a work permit for up to 9 months.
If your program was 2 years or more
- We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for 3 years.
If you completed more than 1 program
- You may be able to get a PGWP that combines the length of each program.
Each of the programs you completed -
- must be PGWP-eligible and at least 8 months in length
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
One of the following criteria must be met:
Criteria A
Both of the following items are required:
- Canadian RN Nursing Diploma with a 3.0/B/70% CGPA or higher
- Proof of current registration, as a Registered Nurse, with a provincial or territorial regulatory body, or eligibility for registration as a Registered Nurse in Ontario
Criteria B
All of the following items are required:
- Practical Nursing Diploma from a public Canadian college with a 3.0/B/70% CGPA or higher and no repeated courses or failures
- A TMU-approved bridging program, completed within the past five academic years, with a 3.0/B/70% CGPA or higher and no repeated courses or failures
- Proof of eligibility for registration as a Registered Practical Nurse in Ontario
Criteria C
International nursing diploma with good academic standing and one of the following:
- A TMU-approved bridging program, completed within the past five academic years, with a 3.0/B/70% CGPA or higher and no repeated courses or failures
- Proof of current registration, as a Registered Nurse, with a provincial or territorial regulatory body, or eligibility for registration as a Registered Nurse in Ontario.
Candidates must submit:
- Academic transcripts including promotion/graduation status from all nursing and other post-secondary level studies, indicating specific courses and grades
- A photocopy of current Ontario Certificate of Registration (or provincial or territorial equivalent) or proof of eligibility for the same.
