Continuing Care Assistant (CCA)

Learn to function as a Continuing Care Assistant (CCA) team member in home and special care. Through a combination of hands-on classroom learning and labs, you will receive clinical experience in home and long-term care settings. This program focuses on working with the elderly, but you will be prepared to work with clients of all ages.

Biggar

Biggar is located less than an hour west of Saskatoon. The community has a diverse offering of recreational activities that include karate, skiing and gun clubs in addition to hockey, curling and baseball. Relax at the outdoor pool, fishing at the trout pond or finishing a round on the nine-hole grass green golf course.

Kindersley

Kindersley is a vibrant and progressive community located in west central Saskatchewan that is surrounded by rich agricultural land and a thriving oil and gas industry. You can play golf, tennis and soccer, go paintballing or join in on the annual rodeo and Winterfest events. Prairie Oasis Park offers a skateboard park, BMX track and toboggan hill.

Job Opportunity Potential

Continuing care assistants may work in home care settings, long-term care facilities, private care homes, acute care facilities, integrated facilities, supportive housing or special needs classrooms. Most continuing care assistants work for the Saskatchewan Health Authority, as part of a health care team under the supervision of registered nurses, registered psychiatric nurses and-or licensed practical nurses.

Earning Potential

In 2022, the wage for nurse aides, orderlies, and patient service associates in Saskatchewan was $17.00-$24.80/hour and for 91麻豆精品 support workers, housekeepers, and related occupations was $13.75-$25.19/hour according to the Saskatchewan Ministry of Immigration and Career Training. Employees may earn more or less depending on their employer, location, size of company, training, experience and hours worked.

Demand for continuing care assistants and other health care workers will continue to rise as Saskatchewan’s population ages in the coming years.

  •    You aren’t eligible for a PGWP.

If your program was more than 8 months but less than 2 years

  •    We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for up to the same length as your study program.

For example, if you completed a 9-month program, we may give you a work permit for up to 9 months.

If your program was 2 years or more

  •    We may give you a PGWP that’s valid for 3 years.

If you completed more than 1 program

  •    You may be able to get a PGWP that combines the length of each program.

Each of the programs you completed -

  • must be PGWP-eligible and at least 8 months in length

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

  • Grade 12 or successful completion of 15 post-secondary credits from a recognized institution.
  • Accepted applicants will be required to provide evidence of the following prior to entering the clinical component of the program: 
    • Food Safe Level 1
    • Professional Assault Response Training (PART)
    • Standard First Aid and CPR Heartsaver ‘C’ AED or equivalent
    • Transfer, Lift, Repositioning (TLR)
    • WHMIS 2015
    • Respiratory FIT test 
    • A current criminal record check and vulnerable sector check 
    • Current immunization records
