Bachelor of Arts (Hons) Fashion Communication and Promotion

The programme aims to establish an understanding of the creative process of fashion communication through visual development and visual storytelling exploring creative problem solving for fashion image and text within the fashion industry. The programme prepares students for a career in the highly competitive sector of the fashion industry by ensuring that graduates have the necessary combination of creative, technical, intellectual and communication skills.

As creative visual communicators and visual marketers students will explore and exploit cutting edge practices in the visualisation and promotion of fashion. Students, through the independent and negotiated strategy of the learning on the programme, have the opportunity to create a tailored learning experience specific to their aspiration and evaluated needs specialising in a particular specialist field of creative fashion communication such as fashion film, fashion photography, fashion journalism, fashion illustration or styling.

The overall aims of the programme are to:

Provide a progressive education in Fashion Communication that focuses on experimental and creative approaches for the development of contemporary and original fashion media and communication solutions
Enable students to develop a creative and critical approach within a design-led environment with a focus on innovative imagemaking, fashion writing, photography, fashion illustration and fashion marketing and promotion with an awareness of emerging technology
Enable students to acquire and develop knowledge and expertise in the application of specialist skills, techniques, processes and technologies relating to the fashion communication and promotion.
Prepare students with the knowledge and understanding to establish themselves within a local, regional, national and international profile within their chosen fashion specialist field of creative fashion communication such as fashion branding, fashion journalism fashion marketing, fashion media or fashion film
Enable students to evaluate fashion media and its constituent aspects of research, design, development, innovation, production and styling within cultural and professional contexts to inform their practice and develop their critical abilities
Encourage the development of independent thinking and judgement and apply them to critical, creative, and professional practices Engage in work related experiences and industry placements promoting employability and career readiness for working in fashion and the related businesses within the fashion industry

Academic Positions (Part-Time)
Associate Lecturer(s) will be appointed on part-time basis to cater to short-term teaching requirements. After the recruitment process has concluded, the official appointment will take place three (3) to six (6) months prior to the commencement of classes or it will be subject to the availability of teaching classes.

Applicants must possess a recognised University degree. Any other relevant professional qualifications, industry experience and pedagogical training would be advantageous.

PSW Opportunity

  • The International Students studying in certain institutions in Singapore are allowed to work part time for 16 hours per week as mentioned on the Ministry of Manpower website of Singapore.
  • Students who have studied in the institutions mentioned on the Ministry of Manpower website of Singapore are allowed to apply for a Long Term Visitor Pass.
  • They are allowed to look for a job during this time period.This is for 12 months.If the students get a job during this time period, the employer may sponsor for an Employment pass.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be of age 17 & above and posses ONE of the following entry requirements:

For Year 1 entry

GCE 'A' Level with 2 'A' and 2 'AO' passes 

Non business-related diplomas from local polytechnics

Other PEI's qualifications with entry requirement of 10 years of formal foreign education 

International Foundation Diploma in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Art

For Year 2 entry

MDIS Diploma in Management Studies 

Business-related diplomas from local polytechnics 

Other PEI's business qualification (equivalent to 1st year of External Degree Programme) with an entry requirement of 12 years of formal foreign education 

Higher National Diploma or at least one year of study at a degree level in other field

English Language Requirements

IELTS 6.0 (with no element below 5.5) 

TOEFL internet based test (IBT) 75 (Listening 17, Reading 18, Speaking 20, Writing 18) 

Pearson PTE 56 (no element lower than 51) 

Cambridge English Test Advanced - 169 (no element below 162) 

MDIS Professional Certificate in English (PCIE) 

Pass MDIS English Placement Test 

Letter from College/University clearly stating the Medium of Instruction of the highest qualification to be English
