Italian and Italian Studies, BA

The Italian language is a gateway to appreciating some of civilization's most important cultural achievements, especially in such areas as literature, architecture, and the arts.  Italian language proficiency complements careers in the culinary arts, music, design, fashion, cinema, sports, international relations, genetics, manufacturing, engineering, robotics, and many other exciting areas. The study of Italy's history and geography focuses on pivotal moments spanning over 2000 years, from the Roman Empire to the Renaissance, to World War II, and the present.

You may even want to consider double-majoring in Italian along with a second major in a field such as Business, Economics, Communication, Journalism & Public Relations, Linguistics, Education, Marketing, Arts and Media, as well as Global Studies, History, and Anthropology. Such a combination makes students highly attractive in the job market and extremely well-rounded in the eyes of potential employers.

In our Italian major program, students will acquire a high level of proficiency in speaking, reading, and writing Italian by studying content such as literature, cinema, art, history, and philosophy in the target language.
