Economics of Sustainable Development and Management (BS)

The B.S. degree in Economics of Sustainable Development and Management prepares students to use economic analysis and quantitative methods to understand and evaluate decision problems faced by individuals, firms, and public agencies. Students will learn how to apply economic analysis to the organization and operation of businesses and industries, the economic development process, and its application to specific regions and communities. The curriculum incorporates business management, marketing and finance, production, investment choices, international trade, consumer behavior, sustainable development, economics of the food system, economic analysis of policies and programs that target human wellbeing, including health and nutrition, and the economics of poverty.

PSW Opportunity

Post-Study Work visa or permit, allowing international students on F-1 visas to work in the US after completing their studies, typically through Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Eligibility:
To be eligible for OPT, students must have been enrolled full-time in a US educational institution for at least one academic year and be seeking work related to their major.

Duration:
Students can apply for up to 12 months of OPT, either before they finish their studies (pre-completion) or after graduation (post-completion).

STEM OPT:
Students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields can apply for an extended OPT period of up to 24 months.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

A strong academic foundation is the key to a successful admission application. International first-year applicants must complete secondary school (equivalent to U.S. grades 9-12) and be eligible to enter a university in their own country prior to the expected entry date to the University of Connecticut.

International applicants should have college preparatory coursework in the core subjects of English (if offered), mathematics, physical science, and social science reflected throughout their high school academic careers. Students applying to the School of Engineering must have taken secondary school level physics and chemistry.

Results of Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or Duolingo are required for International applicants whose primary language is not English. The minimum score requirement for the TOEFL is 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), or 79 (internet-based); minimum score requirement for the IELTS exam is 6.5; minimum Duolingo score requirement is 100. Test scores must be sent directly to the University of Connecticut from the respective test provider.  Meeting the minimum score requirements does not guarantee admission into the University..
