Bachelor in Africana Studies

We are cultivating an intellectual environment grounded in the histories, cultures, and worldviews of African people that seeks to activate the strengths of our students and their communities.

Through our degree programs, curriculum and programming, we aim to raise students' and scholars' critical race consciousness and cultural literacy to challenge systemic racism, anti-Blackness and dismantle white supremacy. We also offer a wealth of community engagement and empowerment opportunities.

Gain cultural intelligence and critical race literacy and consciousness. Receive preparation for culturally appropriate civic engagement along with Africana literary and cultural competence. Strengthen your knowledge and skills in Africana research methodologies and methods for studying people of African descent and obtain training in advocacy for social change and social justice.

PSW Opportunity

Post-Study Work visa or permit, allowing international students on F-1 visas to work in the US after completing their studies, typically through Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Eligibility:
To be eligible for OPT, students must have been enrolled full-time in a US educational institution for at least one academic year and be seeking work related to their major.

Duration:
Students can apply for up to 12 months of OPT, either before they finish their studies (pre-completion) or after graduation (post-completion).

STEM OPT:
Students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields can apply for an extended OPT period of up to 24 months.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

You will be considered for admission to CSUN as an international freshman if you meet the following requirements:

You have earned a minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 grading scale or an average of "B" grades on an "A - F" letter grading scale. (CSUN will convert your international GPA when you apply for admission.)
Cambridge C1 Advanced English (formerly CAE) = 172

DET – Duolingo English Test = 95

IELTS Academic - International English Language Test System = 6.0

iTEP Academic - International Test of English Proficiency = 3.8

PTE Academic - Pearson Test of English = 50

TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language = Internet Based score: 61, Paper-based score: 500
