Urban Forestry and Arboriculture (AAS)

Students should work closely with their advisors to select appropriate courses. Each student should prepare a tentative plan of study with an academic advisor as early as possible, outlining all courses.

A final plan of study, approved by the major advisor and the Ratcliffe Hicks School of Agriculture Director, must be filed with the Director of the School and the Degree Auditor no later than the end of the semester prior to the semester of expected graduation.

PSW Opportunity

Post-Study Work visa or permit, allowing international students on F-1 visas to work in the US after completing their studies, typically through Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Eligibility:
To be eligible for OPT, students must have been enrolled full-time in a US educational institution for at least one academic year and be seeking work related to their major.

Duration:
Students can apply for up to 12 months of OPT, either before they finish their studies (pre-completion) or after graduation (post-completion).

STEM OPT:
Students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields can apply for an extended OPT period of up to 24 months.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

A strong academic foundation is the key to a successful admission application. International first-year applicants must complete secondary school (equivalent to U.S. grades 9-12) and be eligible to enter a university in their own country prior to the expected entry date to the University of Connecticut.

International applicants should have college preparatory coursework in the core subjects of English (if offered), mathematics, physical science, and social science reflected throughout their high school academic careers. Students applying to the School of Engineering must have taken secondary school level physics and chemistry.

Results of Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), International English Language Testing System (IELTS), or Duolingo are required for International applicants whose primary language is not English. The minimum score requirement for the TOEFL is 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), or 79 (internet-based); minimum score requirement for the IELTS exam is 6.5; minimum Duolingo score requirement is 100. Test scores must be sent directly to the University of Connecticut from the respective test provider.  Meeting the minimum score requirements does not guarantee admission into the University..
