General English

Stanley College’s General English course provides students with the opportunity to develop useful English language and literacy skills which they can use to undertake a variety of English language skills tests, further their education and training and actively participate in an English speaking community. The aims of this course are to:

Improve general proficiency of students in their knowledge and understanding of English, in the skills of reading, writing, speaking and listening. Improve student’s general every-day usage of English in different contexts, including in the community and workplace. Provide students with strategies to participate in learning activities outside of the classroom, to actively participate in further study and learning contexts. To enable students to study toward a specific goal- whether it be to participate in the IELTS, TOEIC, Cambridge FCE or other applicable tests.

Duration: 4 weeks up to 75 weeks.
(minimum enrolment is 4 weeks. Each course level may take up to 15 weeks)

PSW Opportunity

Post Study Work Steam Renames to Post Higher Education Work Steam.

  • Bachelor degree holders including honours can get upto 2 years of post study stay
  • Master by course work and extended (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 2 years
  • Masters by research (with a duration exceeding 2 years) and PhD holder can stay upto 3 years
  • The Maximum eligible age to apply for PSW will be reduced to 35 years of age from 50 years of age for all applicants

Due to the Australian Indian Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement signed by the 2 countries, according to which:

  • Indian students completing bachelor degree including honours can stay upto 2 years
  • Bachelor degree with First class honours in STEM including ICT can stay upto 3 years
  • Masters by coursework in extended researched (with a duration exceeding 2 years) can stay upto 3 years
  • PhD students can stay upto 4 years

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

English Proficiency:
There is no minimum entry requirement for our General English courses. The course level of new students is assigned after completion of the Placement Test. Existing students gain entry in the next level by completing 2 Competency Tests to demonstrate they have achieved the course objectives. English proficiency entry levels are as follows:

  • Beginners – CEFR A0
  • Elementary – CEFR A1
  • Pre-Intermediate – CEFR A2
  • Intermediate – CEFR B1
  • Upper- Intermediate – CEFR B2

Course Prerequisite Requirements

  • Applicants must be at least 17 years old at the time of course commencement.
