Biomedical Engineering MEng (Hons)

Biomedical engineers have the skills and flexibility to be involved in a wide number of activities from the development of novel devices, to the delivery of expert services directly to patients.

They work with doctors, therapists and researchers to develop systems, equipment and devices to solve clinical problems and improve patient outcomes and safety. In addition they support clinical staff, personnel and the financial governance of medical equipment, which can range from the analysis and reporting of incidents involving medical devices, to the assessment of new technologies.

Our BEng/MEng (Hons) Biomedical Engineering courses build upon longstanding world-class research collaboration in this field between the Schools of Life & Health Sciences and Engineering & Applied Sciences here at Aston. You will have access to the very best, innovative, hands-on teaching from academics active in the field, with strong links to UK and international biomedical industrial collaborators.

You will also have the opportunity to complete clinical and manufacturing visits designed to inspire innovation and entrepreneurship. We are partners in the Medical Device Testing and Evaluation centre (MD-TEC) based in the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham giving you access to over 100 companies developing real-world health products and seeking graduate employees in an entrepreneurial environment with mock operating theatres and wards.
