Health Psychology MSc

Health psychology investigates the way psychological behaviour influences health, illness and the care for chronic disease. A health psychologist uses their knowledge of psychology to understand health behaviours and promote general wellness. They are trained to assist patients with their emotional and psychological needs as well as caring for those who are chronically ill.

Our MSc Health Psychology course will provide you with an in-depth understanding of the theory underpinning health psychology. At Aston, you’ll build your understanding of advanced research methodology and the analysis of qualitative and quantitative data to carry out independent work of publishable standard. As you prepare to become a health psychologist, you’ll learn the professional and transferable skills needed to succeed in this role as well as gaining an awareness of the contribution and application of health psychology within multicultural and multidisciplinary settings.

If you're currently exploring ways to gain work experience, land a placement or secure a graduate role, it's important to be as prepared as possible for the process ahead. To help you get there, our resource library is packed with information on everything from drafting your first CV to nailing an assessment centre.

We also subscribe to a range of online tools that'll help you prepare for a psychometric test or video interview – practice makes perfect, after all! In addition, we’ve collated some useful online resources around working from home.

We do experience high demand for appointments, so we'd recommend checking out the resources on our website, using our online tools, or attending one of our events in the first instance. 

Practice your video interview skills
The employers we work with are doing more and more video interviews – for obvious reasons. Video interviews can be awkward and scary, but it doesn't have to be that way. The more you practice, the more comfortable you become. We've got a host of online tools to help you get prepped.

PSW Opportunity

  • 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
  • 3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

Typically, you may be exempt from taking a SELT such as IELTS, TOEFL etc if you have:

Studied at a highly recognised institution and completed your entire education in English medium.
Have a strong Class 12 English paper score (typically, 75-85% and above). 
Have evidence of working in a multinational company where it is obvious that the daily language of communication is English.

You can apply for a Masters programme with an undergraduate degree from an overseas institution.

You should at least have a first class degree from an Indian university.  The specific percentage requirement will vary depending on the course you are applying for at Aston and the Indian university which you have graduated from.

If you are applying for finance, engineering or science-based subjects, you must have studied a similar field in your undergraduate degree.

You can apply for the MBA programme with an undergraduate degree, in any subject area, from an overseas institution and a minimum of three years post-graduation managerial work experience. You should have at least a first class degree from an Indian university.

These exemptions do not apply to Aston Medical School MBChB Programme.

To be accepted onto our programmes, you must be able to satisfy the University's English language requirements. The level required will depend on the programme you are applying for.  We strive to make your application process as easy as possible, however in all cases we reserve the right to request an English language qualification and / or conduct an interview.
