Computer Animation - BA (Hons)

BA (Hons) Computer Animation is an internationally recognised, award-winning course. You can develop your creative talents, and gain the practical and technical skills for an exciting career in TV, Film, Visual Effects or Games. Artistic and creative practices, enabling you to produce the best results possible, underpin the computer-generated content of the course.

Graduates from the computer animation course have worked at prestigious studios throughout the world. These include, Sony Pictures Imageworks and DreamWorks Animation, worked on productions such as Star Wars (Solo and The Last Jedi), Ready Player One, Avengers (Infinity War and Age of Ultron), The Jungle Book, Fantastic Beasts, Harry Potter films and Guardians of the Galaxy. This also includes cutting-edge computer games studios like Rockstar North, Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (PlayStation) and EA Games (UK and USA).

This course is recognised by industry professionals as one of the top UK educational providers for 3D CG Animation and 3D CG Art. It’s the only course in the UK to hold ScreenSkills Accreditations for both animation and digital games art. Also, the computer animation degree was ranked in the Top 10 3D Animation Courses in Europe, by the International Student Awards "The Rookies" (formerly The CG Student Awards), in 2018.

Job Opportunity Potential

Graduates will have a broad understanding of business management principles and an in-depth understanding of business accounting and will be prepared for a variety of graduate management and/or accounting careers. The course will also be ideal preparation for students wishing to start their own businesses.

Our Careers and Employability Service
As a USW student, you will have access to advice from the Careers and Employability Service throughout your studies and after you graduate.

This includes: one-to-one appointments from faculty based Career Advisers, in person, over the phone or even on Skype and through email via the "Ask a Question" service. We also have extensive online resources for help with considering your career options and presenting yourself well to employers. Resources include psychometric tests, career assessments, a CV builder, interview simulator and application help. Our employer database has over 2,000 registered employers targeting USW students, you can receive weekly email alerts for jobs.

Our Careers service has dedicated teams: A central work experience team to help you find relevant placements; an employability development team which includes an employability programme called Grad Edge; and an Enterprise team focused on new business ideas and entrepreneurship.

 

PSW Opportunity

  • 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
  • 3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

FOR INDIA

We recognise the WAEC and SSCE examining boards:

  • An overall average of 60 - 65% or above in the 12th Standard depending on which Board you have studied
  • Advanced entry to certain undergraduate degree programmes may be possible for students who hold a UK HND or India Diploma in a relevant subject.

English Qualifications

Proficiency in English is essential for study at the University. The University of South Wales recognise the following English language qualifications: 

  • HSC (12th standard) English at 65-70% or above, depending on which Board you have studied 
  • IELTS 6.0 overall with at least 5.5 in each band or equivalent (some courses require higher IELTS.

FOR BANGLADESH

Academic Qualifications

  • Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) with A grade
  • HSC scores with one or two B grades may be accepted on Business courses but would need to be considered on an individual basis for more specific subject areas
  • Students below A grade (HSC) will be considered for a Foundation Course 
  • Applicants who have followed the A-Level curriculum can be considered for degree-level entry. The normal UCAS tariff will be applied.

English Qualifications

Proficiency in English is essential for Undergraduate study. The University of South Wales recognises the following English language qualifications:

  • GCSE English at grade C
  • IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum 5.5 in each band).

FOR NEPAL

Academic Qualifications

  • Students who have passed the Higher Secondary Certificate in year 12 from CBSE (Central Board of School Education), HSC (Higher Secondary Certificate), NEB (National Education Board) or HSEB (Higher Secondary Education Board of Nepal) with a grade of 65% or above will be considered for direct entry onto an Undergraduate Degree.
  • Applicants who have a CGPA of 2.8 or above will be considered for year 1
  • Schooling certificate must be from Kathmandu
  • Applicants who study the Edexcel or Cambridge A Level curriculum will follow the normal UCAS tariff.

English Qualifications

Proficiency in English is essential for study at the University. The University of South Wales recognises the following English Language qualifications:

  • 12th Standard from Nepal in English with at least 65% plus Medium of Instruction’ letter showing that the applicant has studied their 12th standard (or bachelor degree) in the medium of English. 
  • IELTS 6.0 overall with at least 5.5 in each band or an equivalent qualification.

FOR SRI LANKA

Academic Qualifications

  • Holders of the International Baccalaureate Diploma with higher grades of between 655-445 (this is equivalent to 112-80 UCAS tariff points) will be considered for direct admission to first year degree programmes. Please refer to our course pages for detailed entry requirements. Students who do not meet the entry requirement will be considered for a Foundation year.
  • Holders of the Cambridge GCE A Levels will be considered against the standard UCAS tariff for each individual course for direct admission to first year degree programmes.
  • Advanced entry to certain undergraduate degree programmes may be possible for students who hold a HND in a relevant subject.

English Qualifications

Proficiency in English is essential for Undergraduate study. The University of South Wales recognises the following English Language qualifications:

  • IELTS 6.0 overall with at least 5.5 in each band
  • O Level English grade C or above, completed within the last 5 years from start date of course applied for
  • O Level English grade C or above, completed more than 5 years ago from start date of course applied for but also completed Sri Lankan bachelor’s degree within the last 2 years with English MOI – Bachelor must be from one of the approved universities below and an English MOI provided

  • An overall average of 65% or above obtained in the 12th Standard (HSEC)
  • An overall average of 55% or above obtained from the 2-year Diploma at The Jigme Namgyel Engineering College (JNEC), formerly known as Royal Bhutanese Polytechnic

Undergraduate Advanced

  • Advanced entry to certain undergraduate degree programmes may be possible for students who hold a UK HND or Indian Diploma in a relevant subject.

English Qualifications

  • 65% or higher in the HSEC (12th standard) English subject
  • IELTS 6.0 overall with at least 5.5 in each band or equivalent (some courses require higher IELTS – please refer to the relevant course page on our website)
  • PTE 50 overall with no less than 42 in each module
  • GCSE English (O’Level) with a minimum C grade
