BA (Hons) Event Management

Event management is a fascinating career that can see you working on inspiring projects all over the world. It offers a balance of theoretical and practical learning that explores the latest trends and practices in the events management, tourism and hospitality business. It’s also ranked inside the top 10 of the Guardian University League Table 2019 for tourism, hospitality, and event management. Our course draws on the latest theories and global case studies to explore why some events succeed and others fail. You’ll learn about event marketing, risk and security and hospitality operations. You’ll also have the chance to study abroad in one of our partner universities worldwide and to take an optional six-month internship at Walt Disney World, Florida, and study at the University of California Riverside.

You can also study a language with this course. You can be awarded the degree ‘with language’ in the title if you choose to study a foreign language in all years of study.

Study abroad

The Hertfordshire BA in Event Management is very much an internationally focused degree, exploring trends, practices and approaches to event planning and coordination all over the world. It gives you the exciting opportunity of studying or working abroad – or even combining the two – giving you the kind of stand-out experiences and skills that employers today are looking for.

We have successful, long-standing partnerships with leading organizations like Walt Disney, opening doors for you internationally, as well as an annual international field trip. 

Languages

You’ll also have the opportunity to develop sought-after foreign language skills by choosing language options alongside your core modules. Options currently include French, German, Spanish, Mandarin, and Japanese. 

Work placement

At Hertfordshire Business School, we have strong relationships with organizations across the event management industry, including Walt Disney, creating valuable placement opportunities every year.

In the past, our students have also enjoyed placements with businesses and charities who manage corporate events, sports fixtures, concerts, shows, and festivals, including Bluehat Group, the British Fashion Council, Givergy, and charities including Hope for Children, First, WildGoose, Wendy Wu Tours.

Campus Information

de Havilland Campus (Hatfield)

The 拢120-million de Havilland campus, which was built by Carillion, opened in September 2003 and is situated within 15 minutes walk of College Lane, and is built on a former British Aerospace site.This campus also houses its own Learning Resource Centre, a combined library and computer centre.[Hertfordshire Sports Village which includes a gym, swimming pool, squash courts is also on this site. The large Weston Auditiorium is present on the de Havilland campus, adjacent to the Learn Resource Centre. The auditorium has a capacity of 450 and can host talks both by university lectures for students and for guest lecturers for guests and students, music and films events and dance events.The campus also contains 11 halls of residence;

PSW Opportunity

  • 2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
  • 3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

UCAS Points

  • 104

A Level

  • BCC - Requires Maths A level. Other A Levels may come from a selection of either Engineering or Technology, Science, Design, Computing, or Business related subjects. General studies/critical thinking not accepted.

BTEC

  • DMM -  Requires Extended Diploma in Engineering (DMM) to include Distinction in Further Maths

GCSE: Grade 4/C in English, Mathematics, and Science.

Foundation

  • Completion of the Standard XII Certificate with 50% or above
  • IELTS 4.5 with no less than 4.0 in any band

Undergraduate (year 1)

  • Completion of the Standard XII Certificate with 60-70% depending on points tariff required by the UH course. Some courses may require specific subjects
  • IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band for standard courses – some courses require higher
  • Standard XII English with 65% will also be accepted

Undergraduate (year 2/3)

  • Depending on qualifications and course - usually require 2/3 year Diploma post-Standard XII to be considered
  • IELTS 6.0 with no less than 5.5 in any band for standard courses – some courses require higher
