B.S. Psychology
UW-Stout’s Bachelor of Science in Psychology is for people who want to understand how and why people think, feel, and behave the way they do. Designed according to American Psychological Association guidelines, our program provides a foundation in both basic psychological theory and application of psychology to real-world issues.
Graduates from our program develop strong skills in writing, critical thinking, and working with people which makes them attractive candidates for a wide variety of entry-level positions in human services, education, health, government, and business. Importantly, our graduates also have the background to pursue advanced training in areas such as counseling, research, medicine, and law.
The B.S. in Psychology program at UW-Stout focuses on applying the science of psychology to helping people and solving real world problems.
In addition to traditional coursework in the major sub-fields of psychology, the program offers a unique variety of courses applying psychology to areas such as counseling, health, the workplace, the legal system, the environment, and consumer behavior. Students in the program have numerous opportunities to gain hands-on experience through applied course projects, research experiences, and field experiences. Faculty advisors guide students in developing a personal program plan centered on their individual needs and career goals.
Graduates finish the program with a strong foundation in the application of psychology, analytical thinking and communication skills, which makes them attractive candidates for a wide variety of jobs and graduate programs.

PSW Opportunity
Post-Study Work visa or permit, allowing international students on F-1 visas to work in the US after completing their studies, typically through Optional Practical Training (OPT).
Eligibility:
To be eligible for OPT, students must have been enrolled full-time in a US educational institution for at least one academic year and be seeking work related to their major.
Duration:
Students can apply for up to 12 months of OPT, either before they finish their studies (pre-completion) or after graduation (post-completion).
STEM OPT:
Students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields can apply for an extended OPT period of up to 24 months.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
The English proficiency requirement may be waived for applicants from English-speaking countries. This will be determined by the Admissions Office after you have applied.
Ways to show evidence of English proficiency:
- Official TOEFL score: Minimum iBT (or MyBest) score of 70, or minimum paper-based score of 525.
- Official IELTS score, or IELTS One Skill Retake: Minimum score of 6.0
- Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic): Minimum score of 48
- Duolingo English Test (DET):
- Minimum score of 115 overall (minimum sub/sectional scores of 90 or higher)
- UW-Stout's English as a Second Language Institute (ESLI) will require that students who submit Duolingo English Test scores:
- complete additional testing conducted by the ESLI, and
- enroll in additional ESL courses, as applicable.
- Successful completion of UW-Stout's English as a Second Language (ESL) program.
- Earned transfer credit from a regionally accredited school equivalent to UW-Stout's English 101, with a grade of C or higher.
