English for International Business (Top-up) BA(Hons)

If you are an international student or do not have English as your native language but have previous knowledge of business and wish to enter a commercial environment then this could be the course for you. We'll expect you to have completed at least two years of a degree prior to starting but this top-up course is designed to allow you to gain a full honours degree in one year full-time.

It brings together modules in Modern languages, Business and Linguistics to enable you to improve your knowledge of, and proficiency in, the English language in a business context. It will utilse high level proficiency in English to develop your knowledge and understanding as well as the transferable skills essential for management and leadership within organisations. Study will also be set into a global context to reflect the contemporary nature of business.

The course is built around two modules that build proficiency in, and knowledge of, English placed in business and professional contexts. These are supported by two other core modules exploring intercultural communication and global business to provide knowledge of the context of international business and negotiation. These skills and knowledge are further deepened in a choice of options that focus on specialist business themes; provide the opportunity to complete a project that uses higher level English to examine a business problem; or the chance to study another modern foreign language.

Full-time staff in Business and Linguistics at Huddersfield are actively researching and publishing in their fields and the teaching of undergraduates is therefore informed by the most up-to-date ideas in the discipline. The Professional English staff have extensive experience of teaching students in higher education contexts and from a range of disciplines, especially Business.
