Pharmacology BSc(Hons)

Our Pharmacology BSc(Hons) course offers an advanced programme of learning designed to give you the solid grounding you need to set off on your chosen career path, whether it’s in pharmaceutical industries, the health sector or research.

You’ll be guided by doctoral-level teaching staff on a modular course designed to help you follow your interests and tailor your degree to suit your career aspirations. Alongside building your technical and scientific knowledge, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your deductive, analytical and communication skills – all vital when you venture out into the real world.
On top of that, there’s the chance to gain hands-on experience in our modern biological sciences labs using modern, scientific instrumentation. Plus, if you want to get even more insight and up-to-the-minute experience, you can opt to do a work placement for the duration of your third year.
During the course, we’ll be looking at all aspects of pharmacology including neurodegenerative diseases and other conditions affecting ageing populations, as well as infectious diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis and HIV-AIDS. You’ll also have the chance to study topics around public health and increase your understanding of emerging pathogens and those that are becoming resistant to antibiotics. In short, you should graduate with the knowledge and practical skills to kick-start a fulfilling career.
As a student on this course you’ll be able to apply for undergraduate membership of the Biochemical Society and The Physiological Society (UK). You’ll also be eligible for student affiliate membership of the Royal Society of Biology and upon successful graduation be eligible to apply for one year associate membership, this can help open up networks at a crucial time when applying for jobs.

Queensgate

The university's main campus, Queensgate, is south-east of Huddersfield town centre. Virtually all of the university's teaching takes place on the site. The campus is split in two by the Huddersfield Narrow Canal. It features a mixture of converted mill buildings, and purpose-built facilities

PSW Opportunity

2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

BBC at A Level including a grade B in Chemistry, or a Grade C in Chemistry plus a grade B in another relevant Science subject. The endorsement for practical work is an essential part of Science A Level study, and is a requirement for entry to our degree course.

112 UCAS tariff points from a combination of Level 3 qualifications including a grade B in Chemistry at A Level, or a grade C in Chemistry at A Level plus a grade B in another Science subject.

DMM in BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Applied Science. Alternatively a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care is acceptable but must be accompanied by another Science A Level at grade C or above.

Access to Higher Education Diploma with 45 Level 3 credits at Merit or above to include modules in relevant science subjects.
112 UCAS tariff points from International Baccalaureate qualifications which should include modules in relevant science subjects.
If you do not have the appropriate qualifications for direct entry to this degree you may be able to apply to our Science Extended Degree (BCF0).

If your first language is not English, you will need to meet the minimum requirements of an English Language qualification. The minimum for IELTS is 6.0 overall with no element lower than 5.5, or equivalent will be considered acceptable.
