Job Opportunity Potential
When you come to east London, you’ll be struck by the amount of building and development work that’s going on. But development isn’t just confined to the capital. Wherever you go – the UK or abroad – you’ll find large-scale construction projects from homes and hotels to shopping centres and sports stadiums.
With a degree in architectural design technology, you’ll be perfectly placed to provide the crucial link between architects and other professionals and managers in the construction industry.
Your knowledge of design procedures, technology, professional practice and the business side of procurement and contracts will give you the chance to play a pivotal role in the construction world.
As an architectural technologist, you have a number of options. For example, you could work for an architectural practice, a large construction company, a design consultancy or a local authority or regulatory body. Alternatively, you could work as a freelance or set up your own company.
Whatever path you take, by the time you graduate you’ll have skills and knowledge that will appeal to employers in a number of sectors. Whether you’re interested in high-rise buildings, refurbishments or working for an organisation like the National Trust, you’ll have plenty of options.
You should be able to communicate well verbally, in writing and through drawings or models. You’ll understand the regulatory environment and you’ll be equipped with the practical skills of data collection and analysis. In short, you’ll be on your way to a stimulating career.
