This is especially true when your world is an island wonderland filled with unlimited opportunity and intellectual resources. The theories and skills learned in our program are essential for successful careers, healthy relationships and the development of a deep understanding of communication and its functions in society. Through our on-campus and distance courses, communication students explore various areas of interpersonal and public communication, media studies and cultural studies. These dynamic and energetic environments allow students to develop the skills and knowledge base needed to critically examine and understand communication in all aspects of society.

Job Opportunity Potential
The Career Services team at CBU is here to work with you before, during and after your time as a Cape Breton University student. Our staff members consist of Student Development Officers and Student Placement Officers who will work with you on a number of subjects.
Student Development Officer:
- Provides one-on-one advising appointments to assist in academic and career planning decisions
- Offers individual sessions and group workshops to help you develop employment readiness skills such as resume/cover letter writing, interviewing skills and business etiquette
- Coordinates the Co-curricular Program
Student Placement Officers:
- Coordinate the Co-operative Education Program
- Support the HATM Internship and BACS Work Placement Courses
- Share current job opportunities for students and recent graduates
