Students blend theory with practical experience through field studies around New York City and integrated global study abroad programs that have included Paris, Naples, Milan, and Shanghai.
Our comprehensive curriculum prepares you to excel in an interdisciplinary field of urban design. You’ll engage in case studies and apply new theories and designs to challenges facing global cities, while mastering tools such as digital modeling, data-driven urban processes, resilient strategies, and environmental performance indicators. You’ll also explore the historical, physical, social, political, and philosophical contexts shaping urban environments.
Choose from our advanced urban design studios that range in topics from exploring contemporary metropolis after relentless urbanization to researching the intersection of urban form, low-carbon cities, and climate to prepare future practitioners confronting a rapidly urbanizing world threatened by climate change.
This full-time program requires 15 credits per semester, with some flexibility. Courses may be team-taught, depending on the project and collaborations with public agencies, civic organizations, and research entities.

PSW Opportunity
Post-Study Work visa or permit, allowing international students on F-1 visas to work in the US after completing their studies, typically through Optional Practical Training (OPT).
Eligibility:
To be eligible for OPT, students must have been enrolled full-time in a US educational institution for at least one academic year and be seeking work related to their major.
Duration:
Students can apply for up to 12 months of OPT, either before they finish their studies (pre-completion) or after graduation (post-completion).
STEM OPT:
Students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields can apply for an extended OPT period of up to 24 months.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Standardized Test Scores: Official scores from the GRE, GMAT, MAT, or other exams should be sent directly to the Office of Graduate Admissions if they are applicable to program requirements. Official final test results must be submitted directly from the testing agency.

English Proficiency: International applicants who have studied at a foreign university must provide proof of English proficiency. Applicants are required to submit the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), as administered by the Educational Testing Service, the Pearson PTE Academic Exam, Duolingo English Test, or an examination deemed to be equivalent by the Office of Graduate Admissions.
