Our entry-level Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) degree combines classwork and 24 weeks of full-time work, culminating with a 14-week capstone experience.
What You’ll Learn
The entry-level Doctor of Occupational Therapy places great emphasis on research, evidence-based practice, leadership, program and policy development, and advocacy.
Throughout the entry-level Doctor of Occupational Therapy (OTD) program’s coursework and fieldwork, students will have the opportunity to:
- Learn how to teach daily living skills to patients using adaptive equipment and state-of-the-art assistive technology.
- Design and fabricate custom prosthetic and orthotic devices.
- Develop activity-based interventions to enhance occupational performance.
- Administer and interpret standardized assessments.
- Adapt environments for persons with disabilities.
The 14-week doctoral capstone experience focused on a specific area of interest, including clinical practice skills, research skills, administration, leadership, program and policy development, advocacy, education, or theory development. You’ll also acquire scholarly competencies and in-depth exposure that will address and advance socio-political initiatives, inform clinical practice, generate high-impact teaching and learning, and be disseminated via research within the inter-professional, cross-disciplinary practice, and delivery models.

PSW Opportunity
Post-Study Work visa or permit, allowing international students on F-1 visas to work in the US after completing their studies, typically through Optional Practical Training (OPT).
Eligibility:
To be eligible for OPT, students must have been enrolled full-time in a US educational institution for at least one academic year and be seeking work related to their major.
Duration:
Students can apply for up to 12 months of OPT, either before they finish their studies (pre-completion) or after graduation (post-completion).
STEM OPT:
Students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields can apply for an extended OPT period of up to 24 months.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
To be considered for a Ph.D. program at New York Institute of Technology (NYIT), applicants typically need a bachelor's degree (BS) or a master's degree (MS) from an accredited university, depending on the specific program. The university requires a minimum GPA of 3.2/4.0 for BS applicants and 3.5/4.0 for MS applicants. A minimum GRE score of 300 is also required, and international students must demonstrate English proficiency through TOEFL (79) or IELTS (6.5).
