NZ Diploma in Aviation (Flight Instruction)
This NZQA approved qualification builds on the New Zealand Diploma in Aviation (General Aviation) with strands in Flight Instruction or Airline Preparation.
Holders of this qualification are able to work as commercial pilots engaged in air transport operations under the relevant Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) Rules, or engage in flight instruction under the relevant CAA Rules, or in the associated support industries such as flight planning and aircraft operations.
Graduates of the Aeroplane Flight Instruction strand will also be able to:
- Instruct a diverse population of students in ground subjects and the art of flying, from the private through commercial pilot and instrument ratings on single or multi-engine aircraft; to meet the requirements of a CAANZ Category C Flight Instructor Aeroplane, as defined and specified in CAA Rule Part 61 and applicable Advisory Circulars.
Graduates of the Aeroplane Airline Preparation strand will also be able to:
- Safely undertake duties as the pilot-in-command or as the co-pilot of a multi-engine multi-crew aircraft by applying knowledge of the CAANZ Airline Transport Licence rating theory subjects for aeroplanes, in order to ensure effective cockpit and flight crew dynamics, whilst confidently managing automation, complex equipment and technically challenging systems present within airline air transport operations, as defined and specified in CAA Rule Part 61 and applicable Advisory Circulars.

PSW Opportunity
Level 7 (Bachelor’s degree)
- Duration: Equal to length of study (typically up to 3 years)
- Requirement: minimum 30 weeks full time study in NZ
Level 7 (Graduate Diploma)

Conditions:
- Must also hold a Bachelor’s degree (NZ or overseas)
- Duration: Up to length of study (typically 1 year)
Level 8 (Postgraduate Diploma)
- Duration: Equal to length of study, OR
- Up to 3 years in some cases (if part of higher qualification pathway)
Level 9 and 10 (Master’s degree and Doctoral degree)
- Duration: 3 years
- Condition: Must study at least 30 weeks in New Zealand
- Most eligible international students can work up to 25 hours per week during study and full-time during scheduled breaks, only if their student visa includes work rights.
- Foundation, pathway and short courses have different rules.
- Not allowed for part time students.
Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Be at least 18 years of age before commencing the programme
Complete the ADAPT Trainee Pilot Pre-screening test
Hold NCEA Level 3 with at least 14 L3 credits in English rich subjects (English, History, Geography, Biology, Classical Studies, Art History, Journalism, Media Studies, Religious Studies, PE) and 14 L3 credits in Maths orientated subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Calculus, Accounting, Economics) - or equivalent.

Have achieved passes (70% and above) in all 6 PPL Theory courses.
IELTS Test Academic score of 5.5 with no band score lower than 5
TOFEL Score of 46 (with a writing score of 14)
