BSc (Hons) OPERATING DEPARTMENT PRACTICE

Do you want to be a part of a professional team that changes lives for the better? The Operating Department Practice course gives you the skills to play a valued role in the operating theatre with the chance to progress into leadership roles.
As an Operating Department Practitioner, you’ll have many responsibilities. Whereas nursing focuses on a range of areas around healthcare, Operating Department Practice studies has a direct focus on care within operating theatres and other associated areas. You’ll experience working in a complex care environment, helping patients through vulnerable times in their lives.

Job Opportunity Potential

Working alongside other professionals, such as nurses, surgeons, anaesthetists and health care support workers, care will be delivered to patients during all three phases of this acute care environment.

Although you will be employed within operating theatres, you’ll still be able to work in other areas. The theory and integrated practice that you learn throughout the course will help you work in a variety of clinical areas including:

trauma teams
accident and emergency departments
resuscitation teams
transplant teams
Intensive Care Units
patient transfers
research, education and training
Special Care Baby Units.
We consistently see a high rate of employability after completing the course, with 98% of our students either in employment or further study six months after graduating (HESA 2020). Many of our students are employed by the Trust that they worked with during their time at the University.

PSW Opportunity

2 Years PSW is applicable after completing a minimum duration of 9 months course (like- Undergraduate, Postgraduate Level)
3 Years PSW is applicable after completing PhD level courses.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria

We require successful completion of a Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) / Standard 12 with an overall average of 65% or above.

Mathematics entry requirements

Students need the equivalent of GCSE Mathematics grade C/4.

English language requirements

Students are not required to provide an English Certificate if they achieve a score of 65% or above on the English Language subject of their a Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) / Standard 12.

A typical offer will require a UCAS tariff score of: 80 - 104

A minimum of two full A-levels (or equivalent) is required and a typical offer also requires GCSE Maths and English at grade C/4. Every application is considered on an individual basis.
