PgC Data Science for Global Agriculture, Food and Environment

The overall aim for this module is to impart skills that will allow students to successfully obtain and analyse data to produce descriptive and predictive information. This is a flexible skillset that provides a basic knowledge foundation in data science and is applicable to diverse fields.

This module will survey aspects of applied statistical analysis using modern, appropriate software platforms (e.g. R, Rstudio, Github). Aspects of data wrangling, cleaning and transformation will be practised. The module will cover aspects of probability, sampling, hypothesis testing, linear models, the generalised linear model, and multivariate analysis. The module will also introduce best practice in experimental design, analysis organisation and documentation, and standards for presenting results to a wide audience. Emphasis will be placed on documentation and reproducible analysis.
