Dance, B.F.A

BFA in Dance with emphasis in Performance and Choreography

This degree is designed for exceptionally talented students interested in pursuing careers as dancers and choreographers. A heavy emphasis is placed on technique and composition courses, although a broad spectrum of  theory courses is also required. Students must have and maintain a 2.5 GPA, and audition for admittance into the program. Students are expected to perform each semester and showcase their own choreography regularly. 
BFA in Dance with emphasis in Pedagogy (single field)

This degree is designed for students seeking secondary certification in Dance. These students typically become dance instructors in the public schools and/or private schools/studios. Students will focus on teaching methods/philosophies and receive "hands on" experience with teaching. Students are required to take Curriculum courses and be a Student Teacher in a public school during their senior year. Students must audition for admittance into the program. Students must have and maintain a 2.75 GPA.
BFA in Dance with an emphasis in Pedagogy (dual field)

Same as the "Single Field" degree, but students will also be certified in a second teaching field of their choosing. This degree is time intensive, and has very little room for electives. Students must have and maintain a 2.75 GPA.
BA in Dance

This degree is designed for students interested in the broad theoretical study of dance. Students may choose to focus on: Dance History/Criticism, Dance Production, Dance Technology, Somatic Studies (study of body/mind practices), or Dance Administration/Business. Students in this option are provided with more electives; as well as mentoring by the faculty so they may tailor the degree to their interests. Students must have and maintain a 2.5 GPA.

Because ACT and SAT test scores are not required for 2022 entry terms, applicants ranked in the top 75% of their graduating class will be reviewed holistically.
 
When reviewing your application, Texas State will consider your high school curriculum, admission essay(s), extracurricular involvement, leadership, community service, work experience, quality and competitive level of courses taken and grades earned, in addition to other factors presented in your application.
 
We strongly encourage anyone who is not offered freshman admission to attend another college, complete 30 hours of transferable credit with a minimum GPA of a 2.25, and apply for transfer admission.
