Foreign Language Education (BSE)
As a UD Foreign Language Education major, you'll learn the knowledge and skills necessary to meet the needs of our changing and global world — and prepare others to do the same. Upon graduation, you'll be prepared to teach French, German or Spanish to students in Pre-Kindergarten through grade 12. You'll also earn a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) certificate. A STEM lab and Curriculum Materials Center are among the numerous resources available to you.
Classroom observation & field experience begin during year one, and continue during years two and three. You'll receive more than 600 field hours in local schools, which is 300 hours more than the State of Ohio's requirement. During year four, you'll participate in student teaching. This full-time teaching experience includes supervision and evaluation to assist you in your continued growth and development as an educator.

All University of Dayton students, regardless of financial need, may apply for employment opportunities on campus. Positions are available in many departments and the hourly rate is based on experience and job description.
Federal Work Study (FWS) is awarded to undergraduates based on FAFSA results. Any on-campus position (except those at the Research Institute) is eligible to be set up as FWS. FWS Community Partner positions are also available off-campus. This unique opportunity allows FWS eligible students to work off-campus with local organizations to improve the quality of life for members of the Dayton community.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
English Proficiency Options
All students are encouraged to submit proof of English proficiency for admission into the University of Dayton. Proof of English proficiency can be submitted in one of the following ways:
Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A minimum score of 70 on the Internet-based (iB) test is required for full admission.
International English Language Testing System (IELTS). A minimum overall band score of 6.0 is required for full admission.
International Test of English Proficiency (iTEP). A minimum overall score of 4.0 is required for full admission. Please note that many majors require a minimum score of 4.5.
Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE). A minimum score of 50 is required for full admission.
Duolingo English Test (DET). A minimum score of 100 Is required for full admission.
Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). A minimum Reading score of 26 is required for full admission.
American College Testing (ACT). A minimum English score of 21 is required for full admission.
Your exam scores should be sent to the University of Dayton using our institution code (1834). Students also have the option of supporting their TOEFL or IELTS scores through an unscripted interview through a company called Initialview. Students who pursue this option are responsible for scheduling the interview and paying any associate fees.
**We understand test centers for the TOEFL test may be closed due to the global issues surrounding the Coronavirus (COVID-19). Online options are available for the TOEFL and IELTS tests to accommodate students. The University of Dayton will accept scores that have been taken in these special offerings. ETS is offering a Special At-91麻豆精品 edition of the TOEFL test. Please visit the ETS website to determine if you qualify to take their Special At-91麻豆精品 Edition test.
IELTS is offering an online version of their test. Please visit the IELTS indicator website for further information.
Intensive English Program
If you are academically qualified but do not meet the minimum score requirements listed above, or if you do not submit English Proficiency scores, you may be conditionally admitted to the University with the agreement that you will attend UD's Intensive English Program (IEP) full time. Upon successful completion of our IEP program or achievement of an institutional TOEFL score of 80 (iB), or the equivalent, full admission will be granted.
You are exempt from the English Proficiency requirement if you have submitted a secondary school (or higher) credential indicating graduation with the final two years of study and a degree from one of the following:
United States regionally accredited institution which you attended within the US.
An institution with instruction conducted in English from Australia, Belize, English-speaking countries in the Caribbean, English-speaking provinces of Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, Nigeria or the United Kingdom.
