The Office of Career Services serves as a bridge between students' college experience and life after UT. Starting the first year at UT and continuing beyond graduation, we are here to help students explore who they are and their career options, connect their experience — whether it is academic, campus involvement and engagement, internships or work experience, to careers or graduate school – and achieve their post-graduation goals.

The Career Services staff wants you to know that we are here for you during this unique and challenging time. The Office of Career Services is happy to help, whether you are looking to EXPLORE careers, searching for your next EXPERIENCE or seeking to ACHIEVE an internship or job. 

Career Exploration is something you can do starting as a first-year student. The process of career exploration connects who you are as a person with meaningful career options that align with your values, interests, personality, skills, strengths and motivations.

You don’t need to figure out the rest of your life today! In fact, most of us figure things out by living and doing. Paying attention to what makes you come alive. Learning with intention. Being curious about yourself and the world around you. Trying things to see if they work. The journey of career exploration can be a well-informed, fun and interesting process in which you are actively engaged starting your freshman year.

Get started on this process now, so when you graduate, you’ll have some solid ideas about who you are, where you’re going and how you’ll get there.

Requirements for Admission to the University

Admission to the freshman class is based on (1) academic performance in at least 18 college preparatory high school courses: four in English, three in science (two with laboratory components), three in mathematics, three in social studies, two of a foreign language and three in academic electives; or high school equivalency earned through the General Educational Development tests, with a score that is acceptable to the University; (2) Results of the Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) administered by the College Entrance Examination Board, or the American College Test (ACT); (3) one recommendation from a high school counselor or teacher; and (4) a personal statement or essay.

Applicants must submit one of the following:

• TOEFL: the minimum acceptable score is 550 or 213 (computer-based) or 79 (Internet-based) exam.
• IELTS: International English Language Testing System – minimum grade of 6.5.
• DuoLingo: the minimum acceptable score is 105. The Duolingo English Test is an online English proficiency test that can be taken online, on-demand, in under an hour for only $49. The test is taken online via a computer with a webcam and microphone. The test includes a proficiency score, video interview, and writing sample which are shared with The University of Tampa when you send your results. Certified results are available within 48 hours of the test session.
• Successful completion of the English 112 certificate offered by ELS Language Centers accompanied by a letter of recommendation from an administrator and a 500-word English writing sample.

International students who meet admission requirements but need additional English language training prior to entering as a full-time degree student may enroll in one of several ESL programs.
