Social Work - Bachelor of Social Work

The BSW program at JSU prepares students for professional social work practice. Our program includes innovative coursework, creative field experiences, relevant research activities, and unique service-learning opportunities. Our students experience real-world social work practice in dynamic collaborative relationships with faculty, peers, and experienced social work professionals. The JSU social work student organization engages in various community service projects throughout the academic year where they partner with various social service agencies in our community. Students can also achieve membership in the National Phi Alpha Social Work Honor Society where they can compete for national scholarships.

Job Opportunity Potential

There are full-time faculty positions, e.g. Assistant Professor, Communication, Assistant Professor, Project Management.
Staff roles, like Academic Advisor or Career Advisor, helping students with academic & career development/transition.
Student jobs: many part-time or temporary roles for enrolled students (library, labs, offices). There are also Federal Work Study options.
Jobs in support functions: groundskeeper/laborer, administrative assistants, media/digital?media student assistant etc.

PSW Opportunity

Post-Study Work visa or permit, allowing international students on F-1 visas to work in the US after completing their studies, typically through Optional Practical Training (OPT).

Eligibility:
To be eligible for OPT, students must have been enrolled full-time in a US educational institution for at least one academic year and be seeking work related to their major.

Duration:
Students can apply for up to 12 months of OPT, either before they finish their studies (pre-completion) or after graduation (post-completion).

STEM OPT:
Students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) fields can apply for an extended OPT period of up to 24 months.

A. Minimum high school GPA and graduation with a valid and acceptable diploma type - Prior to graduation, an official high school transcript is required indicating the GPA of work completed through at least the junior year of high school. To be offered provisional admission before high school graduation, applicants should have a cumulative high school grade point average of 2.00 on a 4.00 scale (75/100). Upon graduation, an official high school transcript showing the date of graduation and type of diploma received is required. (JSU Policy No. III:19 High School Diploma Validation Policy)
