Computer Science BS
The bachelor’s degree program of study provides career-oriented computing education that enables graduates to enter positions with skills that are in high demand in industry and the government sector. Graduates of the program are prepared to begin professional careers or to pursue graduate studies.
The program offers a minor in computer science, software engineering and web-centric computing. A minimum of 124 hours is needed to graduate with a B.S. in computer science. The degree plan allows students to select concentrations in specific content areas. Students seeking a second degree in this program must satisfy all accreditation requirements. Students may pursue certificates offered by the School of CSCE in applied cybersecurity and computer networking.
Computer Science faculty members are committed to undergraduate and graduate education, actively engaged in individual and collaborative research efforts, and eagerly participate in service to the school, college, university, community and to their profession. Artificial intelligence, machine learning, robotics, bio-informatics, virtual reality, and cybersecurity are some of the research areas that faculty are engaged in. Students have opportunities to participate in research at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Admission Requirement / Eligibility Criteria
Strong Freshman applicants will present a 2.5 minimum GPA in core academic subjects. Freshman applicants must complete a required core curriculum of courses during their secondary school education to be admitted to the university. The basic core requirements are:
4 units of English
3 units of mathematics
3 units of sciences
3 units of social studies
2 units of advanced electives
1/2 unit of computer applications
It is understood that most foreign education systems do not follow the same core curriculum as taught in U.S. high schools. Therefore, each applicant will be evaluated on criteria particular to the educational system of the country in which they completed their studies.
Standardized tests are required for most applicants to any academic program at the graduate and undergraduate level. All applicants who are from countries other than the United Kingdom, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, and certain Caribbean Islands, must submit scores from the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), The International English Language Testing System (Academic) (IELTS) or International Test of English Proficiency Exam (Academic) (iTEP), Pearson Test of English (PTE), or meet one of the qualifying exceptions (see below).
