Hochschule Fresenius听is a听private , state - recognized听university of applied sciences听accredited by the Science听Council听.听It is divided into five departments: Economics & Media, Health & Social Affairs, Chemistry & Biology, Design and Onlineplus.听The sponsor is Hochschule Fresenius gGmbH, a subsidiary of COGNOS AG.听

The university goes back to the Fresenius听chemical laboratory听founded in 1848 by听Carl Remigius Fresenius听and the associated laboratory school.听In 1931, the听Fresenius School of Chemistry听received state recognition for the training of chemical听engineers听.听In 1962, the chemistry school and research laboratory were separated and the chemical engineer training was supplemented by an engineering degree.听Three years later, the chemistry school was upgraded to an engineering school.听In 1971 it was officially recognized as a听Fresenius University of Applied Sciences听with a degree in听chemical engineering听.

In 1995 the university moved from听Wiesbaden听to听Idstein听.听In 1997, the vocational school for听speech therapy听in听Darmstadt was taken over, which has been based in听Frankfurt am Main听since 2010听.听In addition to the originally single chemistry department, the Economics & Media and Health & Social Affairs departments were added in 1998.听The university was renamed听Europa Fachhochschule Fresenius听.听The Cologne听location was founded in 2003, the听Zwickau听location听(which was closed in 2016) in 2004, and the听Hamburg听and听Munich听locations in 2008 .听In 2008 the name was changed toFresenius University of Applied Sciences听.

A location was opened in听D眉sseldorf听in 2012 .听In the same year, the departments were restructured and the school and academy models were introduced.听Since then, the courses have been assigned to different schools.

The Fresenius University of Applied Sciences is state-recognized by the听Hessian Ministry for Science and Art听.听The courses at all locations are based on the Hessian Higher Education Act.听The university undergoes a regular review of the entire institution by the听Science Council听.听Hochschule Fresenius is audited and certified annually by the certification organization CERTQUA in terms of quality management and organizational development.
